Driver of lawn mower in accident released on police bail

SEREMBAN - The 26-year-old driver of a ride-on lawn mower detained after a blade from the machine he was operating broke and fatally struck a Form 2 student has been released on police bail.

Tampin OCPD Supt Hamazah Abd Razak said a preliminary police probe showed there was no criminal element involved in the incident.

"We are still investigating the incident under section 304 of the Penal Code for manslaughter.

"We will work with other agencies to establish what actually caused the incident and what caused the blade to break," he said.

Fourteen-year-old Nur Afini Roslan died on the spot after being struck by the blade.

She was with a group of students at the field at SMK Tuanku Abd Rahman around 10.30am on Tuesday (Feb 13) when the incident happened.

Two others students were injured in the incident and were referred to the Gemas health clinic for treatment.

The driver of the ride -on lawn mower was cutting grass near where the students had gathered to rehearse for their Sports Day event.
