Assistant land officer released on RM10,000 bail in MACC probe

KOTA KINABALU:  A 54-year-old assistant land officer was released on bail of RM10,000 by the magistrates court here after five days of questioning in a Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) probe into alleged bribery.
His suspected "runner" has been remanded for a further five days beginning Tuesday (Feb 13).

The assistant land revenue officer from the Beaufort Land and Survey Department was arrested after graft investigators caught a 46-year-old middlemen demanding RM35,000 from a man who wanted his late father’s land title released by the land.

The middleman was arrested at restaurant during a sting operation by the MACC on Feb 8 that led to the arrest of the land officer on the same day in Beaufort.
