JOHOR BARU: The Marine police have seized various firecrackers worth RM7,000 with the arrest of a 41-year-old man at a house in Ulu Tiram here.

Southern Region II commander Asst Comm Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said the suspect was nabbed at around 12.15am on Saturday (Feb 10) during an operation dubbed Ops Landai Khas.

He said initial investigations revealed that the firecrackers were to be sold to the local market around the area in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebration.

“Following a tip-off and planned operation, officers from the PPM Pengerang raided the house and found 10 different types of firecrackers placed in the living room,” he said.

He said the suspect would be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries a maximum seven-year jail term, RM10,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.
