Pillion rider killed after being dragged by car

KAJANG: An 18-year-old pillion rider was killed after being dragged for about 500m by a car which crashed into her motorcycle.

The girl's 50-year-old mother, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained multiple injuries as a result of the crash at about 11.50pm on Thursday (Feb 8) at KM27 of the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban road.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said initial investigations revealed that the car driver had turned his vehicle into a junction before hitting the motorcycle.

"The impact of the crash threw the girl underneath the car while her mother fell by the side of the road.

"In panic, the driver (of the car) continued to accelerate the vehicle as he was afraid of getting beaten up by onlookers," ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said.

He added the suspect only noticed that he had dragged the girl when a member of the public blocked his path with a vehicle.

ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said the girl's mother suffered a broken leg and bruises.

"She was sent to Kajang Hospital for treatment while the body of the girl was sent to Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.

"We also took a sample of blood from the suspect to test for alcohol and drugs," he said.

The suspect has been detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

"We are still investigating the case further," he said, adding that the suspect's vehicle has been seized pending checks by Puspakom.
