KOTA KINABALU: Defence contractors have been asked to re-channel some of their profits from the ministry back to armed forces personnel and their families.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said it was not wrong for contractors in this field to make profits as that was part of business, but there should not be too huge a margin.
"These industry players should also think of making sure that the majority of the profits are channelled back for the benefit of armed forces personnel and their families," he said during an event at the Lok Kawi Army camp on Friday.
He said there should also be no more commission agents.
Hishamuddin said that there were many types of Corporate Social Responsibility programmes involving the military to do with housing, health and education and he wanted firms in the industry to step forward.
"For example, setting up a dialysis centre. It costs nothing to these companies," he said.
"If you are benefiting from the defence industry and its products, why not help the military and channel back the funds to help the veterans and families of the military men?" he said.
