MUAR: The Government has spent about RM245mil to install over 317,000 units of streetlights at villages under the 8th to 11th Malaysia Plans.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that of the total, 258,000 lamp posts were installed throughout the peninsula while 31,811 and 27,259 units were installed in Sabah and Sarawak respectively.

He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had also announced a RM100mil allocation for 110,000 units of village streetlights to be installed nationwide under Budget 2017.

"From this, 6,333 units will be the LED-type and the rest will be High Pressure Sodium Vapour (HPSV).

"The LED ones will be installed at strategic areas and junctions of main roads," he said during the handing over of installed village streetlights at Bukit Mor here on Friday.
