Nurul Izzah says will defend Lembah Pantai seat, but will abide party's decision

PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar(pic) has reiterated that she is committed to defending her seat at Lembah Pantai but will abide by the decision of the party leadership.

"There has been quite a few never-ending speculation. Having said that, I have stated I am committed to defend the seat of Lembah Pantai," she told reporters at a press conference at PKR headquarters.

"Of course the leadership has the final say. We are merely soldiers of the struggle," she said.

Nurul Izzah was responding to a question whether she will be contesting the Permatang Pauh seat in the coming elections.

In 2008, she defeated Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Sharizat Abdul Jalil in Lembah Pantai before successfully defending her seat in 2013 against former Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing minister Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin.

Talks of Nurul Izzah contesting in Permatang Pauh had been lingering for weeks following claims of waning support and the movement of postal votes in the Lembah Pantai constituency.
