KUALA TERENGGANU: Fire and Rescue Department personnel managed to stop a blaze from spreading to nearby houses at Kg Panji Wakaf Beruas after a house there caught fire.

Kuala Terengganu fire station chief Rozizah Abnihajar said they received a call at about 4.55pm and took about eight minutes to reach the scene.

However, the wooden house had been completely destroyed when they arrived as the fire spread quickly due to strong winds.

"We managed to extinguish the fire in about seven minutes and also saved two adjacent houses and a car belonging to one of the neighbours," she said adding that 18 personnel and three fire engines rushed to the scene to put out the flames.

Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and losses are estimated to be valued at RM100,000.

The house's only resident, 45-year-old Wan Azhar Wan Dagang was not at home when the incident happened as he had gone to a nearby shop to buy cigarettes.
