BUTTERWORTH: Pakatan Harapan should look at the bigger picture and not the interest of any one of its partners if it hopes to win the general election, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Pakatan chairman said candidates fielded by the Opposition should be supported by all in the grouping.
“If we want to be united, we should uphold Pakatan Harapan before our own parties.
“All four parties must support our one candidate as long as he or she is from Pakatan.
“This will ensure victory for us,” the former prime minister said at the Penang Pakatan Harapan convention in Seberang Jaya on Sunday.
Pakatan Harapan is made up of PKR, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.
Dr Mahathir reiterated that as long as Pakatan was not united “it will continue to be the Opposition”.
“We do not want to oppose anymore. We now want to be the Government,” he added.
Dr Mahathir denied that Opposition grouping could not agree on certain matters, especially on the allocation of seats.
“This is not true. We have already agreed on the parliamentary seats – and this is a big achievement,’’ he said.
However, he pointed out that dissatisfaction over seat allocation “is a good thing”.
“If all parties are not satisfied, this means that we have been fair. If one side is happy, then there is bias,” he quipped.
The state Pakatan Harapan election machinery was launched at the convention.
