JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan has now realised that choosing Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as their prime minister candidate is a mistake, says Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
Even members of the Opposition parties are against the choice of Dr Mahathir made by their leadership, he added.
He said the suggestion by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang that the Election Commission allow last-minute registration of voters shows that Pakatan is desperate to win votes in the coming general election.
“Many of the Pakatan supporters will not cast their votes on polling day as a sign of protest to their top leaders for collaborating with Dr Mahathir,” he told reporters at the presentation of letters of appointment to local leaders in Pulai constituency in Taman Bukit Indah here yesterday.
On a separate issue, Nur Jazlan said there is a need to introduce an Anti-Social Behaviour Act to curb illegal racing activities by mat rempit and mat lajak.
He said the authorities have been taking action against the illegal racers under the present laws.
But the problem still persists.
“If passed by Parliament, the Act will give the police the power to detain a group of five or more mat rempit and mat lajak for illegal gathering although they do not have the intention to race,” he said.
He was responding to the directive by Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who was upset with the activities of mat rempit along Jalan Pantai Lido opposite Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
