JOHOR BARU: Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar (pic) is angry with a group of mat rempit (illegal street racers) for turning Jalan Pantai Lido opposite Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) into their racing track.

The Johor Ruler said he had received complaints from patients at the hospital who had been having sleepless nights due to the loud revving engine noises by mat rempit when they raced along the stretch.

Sultan Ibrahim said he has instructed the police to take immediate action against the mat rempit and nab them for illegal racing, and for inconveniencing motorists and disturbing patients at hospital.

“Stop getting involved in such useless activity. Think of others including patients who are getting treatment at the hospital,” he said in a statement issued by the Royal Press Office on Saturday.

Sultan Ibrahim said even his late son Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim had told him that he could not sleep at night when being treated at HSA due to the noise from the motorcycles.

Both his son Tunku Makhota Johor Tunku Ismail and daughter-in-law Che Puan Khaleeda Bustaman also recounted having trouble sleeping at the hospital, especially between midnight and 3am, during the delivery of the couple’s two children, said Sultan Ibrahim.

“I too had sleepless night during my hospitalisation at the HSA Royal Ward,” added Sultan Ibrahim.
