GEORGE TOWN: Several areas from Kampung Binjai to Teluk Kumbar near here will experience a 12-hour water disruption on Saturday (Feb 3) due to road upgrading works by the Public Works Department.

Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said they had to resort to a diversion pipeline for the water supply in the area to enable the road upgrading works to be carried out from Batu Maung to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.

"Therefore, PBAPP had to divert the 600mm existing mild steel pipe along Jalan Permatang Damar Laut on Saturday.

"Three major pipe connections are scheduled at Jalan Permatang Damar Laut and we have to close the 600mm pipeline from Kampung Binjai to Jalan Teluk Kumbar," Jaseni said in a statement here Monday (Jan 29).

He said the closure of the pipeline would cause scheduled water supply disruption in the area from 9am to 9pm.

The affected areas are Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, Masjid Jamek Kampung Binjai area, Kampung Binjai, Taman Sri Bayan Emas, Kampung Padang, Kampung Seronok, Masjid Kampung Seronok area, Kampung Baru, Taman Sakura 28 and Kampung Bukit.

About 5,500 people will be affected by the water supply disruption and consumers are advised to store sufficient water during the period.

"However, the water supply at the Penang International Airport and the Bayan Lepas trade zone will not be affected," he said. - Bernama
