KUALA KANGSAR: A 47-year-old trader from Ipoh has been arrested in Bercham after being spotted with a “pistol” in his waistband and claiming to be a Singaporean policeman.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said a police team, acting on information from the public, arrested the man at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.
“The man claimed to be a policeman from Singapore.
“We are now checking his claim with our counterpart in Singapore,” he told reporters after attending the state police contingent monthly gathering at the district station here yesterday.
“The pistol he was carrying is a fake,” he said, adding that the man could be charged under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing a fake pistol.
On the coming general election, Comm Hasnan said all preparations have been made and the police are ready to face any incidents during the period.
“About 8,500 policemen will be involved with the election,” he said.
