IPOH: Four people perished in a collision involving two motorcycles and a car at the North-South Expressway (NSE) early Sunday (Jan 21).

The 5.36am incident happened at KM278.9 of the northbound lane near the Ipoh Selatan toll.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Ali Tamby said preliminary investigations found that the two motorcycles were travelling from Simpang Pulai to Ipoh on the left lane.

“The two motorcycles, travelling at high speed, collided into one another at the site.

“Both lost control and crashed into the back of the car,” he said.

ACP Mohd Ali said due to the impact, one of the motorcycles was thrown off the expressway onto a small lane near the road.

Two motorcyclists died on the spot while two pillion riders died at the intensive care unit of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The car driver, a 32-year-old man, escaped unscathed.

ACP Mohd Ali said investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
