Opposition in Sabah team up against Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Alliance (USA) has upped the ante against Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, accusing him of being a pawn of Pakatan Harapan to divide the Opposition front.

The coalition leaders, who had been silent over Shafie’s frequent outbursts of USA leaders being allegedly close to Barisan Nasional, have now hit back by describing the Parti Warisan Sabah president as being arrogant and over-confident.

Two USA leaders, Pakatan Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Datuk Lajim Ukin and Sabah Progressive Party president Datuk Yong Teck Lee, spoke of Shafie’s motives at a press conference yesterday.

Yong claimed Shafie was busy concentrating on Opposition strongholds in the interior and west coast of Sabah but “not touching” Umno strongholds in the state’s east coast.

“He has been concentrating on seats like Keningau where Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (Sabah STAR president) holds a state seat. And Beaufort where Lajim has a seat. All these are already held by the local Opposition in USA.

“Why is he busy with these seats when he should be concentrating on east coast areas held by Umno?”

Lajim said he and Dr Jeffrey, Yong had been in the Opposition for a long time compared to Shafie, whom he said crossed over only two years ago.

“We offered to work together but he does not want to. We want the people of Sabah to know that he does not want to work with us,” Lajim said.
