KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic) is a pawn of Pakatan Harapan to divide the opposition in Sabah, said United Sabah Alliance leaders Datuk Yong Teck Lee and Datuk Lajim Ukin.

Speaking at a joint press conference on Monday (Jan 15), Yong, who is Sabah Progressive Party president, said Shafie was concentrating on local Opposition strongholds in the interior and west coast of Sabah but not Umno strongholds on the state's east coast.

"He has been concentrating on seats like Keningau where Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (Sabah STAR president) is holding a state seat and Beaufort where Lajim holds a seat. All these are already held by the local opposition in the Alliance," said Yong.

Meanwhile, Lajim, who is Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president, said Shafie has only been in the local opposition scene for the last two years but was acting arrogantly.

"We offered to work together. He does not want. We want the people of Sabah to know that he does not want to work with us. If he thinks he can do it alone, then it is his problem," said Lajim.

He also questioned Shafie's sudden interest in the rights of Sabah.

“When he was in government, what did he do for Sabah? Did he fight for state rights?" Lajim asked.
