PETALING JAYA: Television personality Ras Adiba Radzi paid a visit to her musical mentor Datuk Ooi Eow Jin on Saturday (Jan 13), and reminisced about time she spent with the "maestro who creates magic".
Ooi, 80, a retired composer and songwriter, collaborated with entertainers such as Tan Sri P. Ramlee and Datuk Sudirman Arshad in a career that spanned four decades, starting from the 1960s.
Ooi was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2015, and Ras Adiba said that the disease had "gotten the best of him".
She said that she had known Ooi since 1986 when she was just a rookie at TV3 and had grown up in his presence.
Ras Adiba recalled spending time at the "quaint recording studio" in Bangsar to watch Ooi edit songs he had composed for the many television programs he was working on.
"Papa Jin, that is what I call him, was a mentor to all of us. He never spoke much, he was always smiling. We all really looked up to him," Ras Adiba told The Star on Sunday (Jan 14).
"He was a real gentleman, chivalry at its best," she exclaimed.
