KUALA LUMPUR: Potential MCA candidates for the coming general election will not be discussed in public, said party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).
He said this was because such matters should only be discussed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
"It is an internal matter and should not be discussed with the media," he said, adding that the preparation of candidates should also not be made an issue.
"I have instructed the MCA candidates to work hard.
"We work hard for the party and people. So I won't answer this," he told reporters on Saturday when asked to comment on an online news portal report that MCA secretary-general and Tanjong Malim MP Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan will not contest in the 14th general election (GE14).
The report claimed that Perak MCA chairman and Chenderiang assemblyman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon is likely to replace Ong as the party's choice for the Tanjung Malim parliamentary seat.
