Couple crushed to death in accident
MIRI: A couple was crushed to death during a head-on collision between a truck laden with gravel and a four-wheel drive vehicle.
Ling Miaw Chong and his wife Chai Ching Ching, both in their 60s, were pinned inside their Toyota Hilux when it collided with the truck from the opposite direction.
The bodies had to be extricated at the accident scene along the Pan Borneo Highway between Miri and Bintulu, said Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief superintendent Law Poh Kiong.
Ex-inspector pleads not guilty
CHUKAI: Mohd Salam Zainal Abidin, 31, a former police officer with the rank of Inspector, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court yesterday to cheating a businessman of RM140,000 in a fraudulent investment scheme two years ago.
Man dies of smoke inhalation
SHAH ALAM: A 58-year-old man died in a fire that started at the altar of a double-storey house in Taman Sentosa, Klang.
The body of Sang Lai Wah was found wrapped in a blanket on a bed about 5m away from the altar.
Sang was alone during the 7.30pm incident.
“He is believed to have died of smoke inhalation,” said Seri Andalas Fire and Rescue Station chief Senior Assistant Superintendent A. Romzi Abu. — Bernama
MAIPs seeks public help over tithe recipients
KANGAR: The Perlis Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) has appealed to the public to inform the agency of deserving asnaf (zakat recipients).
