GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng says Datuk Mahfuz Omar’s exit from PAS would contribute to Pakatan Harapan’s cause.
“Although he has left PAS, he is still with the Opposition’s struggle.
“It is clear that Mahfuz wants to ensure a strong Pakatan,” Lim told reporters at a press conference at his office here yesterday.
Politically, he added, PAS’ struggle “has gone astray”.
“This is no longer an opposition party ... it is only a mock Opposition,’’he said.
Mahfuz, who is Pokok Sena MP, said on Sunday that he had sent his resignation letter to PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
He announced his decision to quit PAS after 34 years in a live video shared on the Amanah Kedah Facebook page.
The firebrand MP added that contesting in the coming general election was not a priority for him.
Earlier, Lim, who is the Penang Chief Minister, presented RM60,000 to Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital chief executive officer Joan Lim in aid of its development fund.
