Man dies after allegedly throwing himself in front of bus

A man died after he was hit by a bus in Jalan Paya Terubong, Penang.

GEORGE TOWN: A man, who is in his 30s, died after he was hit by a bus in Jalan Paya Terubong near Ayer Itam market.

Rapid Penang, in a statement, confirmed the fatal accident that happened at the bus stop at Pekan Ayer Itam at 1.15pm on Wednesday.

The bus company also said that the accident had killed a male pedestrian.

“However, the matter has been referred to the police and we have made a police report on the incident.

“For other matters, please refer to the police,” it said.

A local resident claimed that the man ran in front of the bus intentionally.

“He tried to run to another moving bus about half an hour before he was killed but the bus driver managed to stop in time,” said the resident.

However, police have yet to issue a statement over the incident.
