KUALA LUMPUR: Radio personalities of Suria FM and 988 have banded up to do good for the underprivileged community through the #DaretoCare charity campaign.
DJ Bob, DJ Suraya and DJ Tyzo of Suria FM, as well as DJ Cassey and DJ Mike of 988 dropped off bags of donations at the SkyWorld Property Gallery at Setapak yesterday.
DJ Mike said a little bit of help could have a large impact for those receiving it.
“We’re part of this society and we need to look out for each other.
“Now that the campaign has brought the less fortunate to our attention, it is more important than ever to extend this spirit,” he said.
DJ Cassey said sometimes people are so caught up with work and life that they just needed a reminder to reach out to worthy causes.
The Suria FM DJs are also calling on people who want to contribute to make sure the items are needed in order to avoid wastage.
“We need to know what the less fortunate really need, not just what we think they need,” DJ Suraya added.
DJ Bob said the campaign has also listed out the items needed by the welfare homes.
DJ Tyzo also pointed out that people need to rethink their taboos.
“People need to change their mindset and not shy away from donating certain items such as personal care and feminine products,” he said.
SkyWorld Development Group noted that since the campaign was rolled out with the distribution of The Star newspapers in collectable brown paper bags on Dec 17, the response has been positive,
“More people are dropping bags of goods here and we’re anticipating more to come after the next batch of The Star newspapers are distributed in these paper bags on Jan 13,” said its head of corporate communications Serena Lim.
#DaretoCare is a charity effort by Star Media Group and SkyWorld Development Group to serve the growing needs of welfare homes.
