GEORGE TOWN: Police nabbed a 27-year-old man who allegedly threatened a contractor by firing gunshots at his double-storey house in January this year.
The man, who will be reman-ded until tomorrow, was picked up at 8.45am in Jalan Patani yesterday.
After seizing his smartphone, police are now investigating his connection with the shooting in Jalan Ismail Che Mat off Jalan P. Ramlee on Jan 10.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the case was being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960 for negligent use of a gun and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
“We are investigating whether the man was involved in firing 14 shots at the double-storey house belonging to a 49-year-old contractor,” he said.
On Jan 10, CCTV footage obtained from the contractor’s neighbours showed that a gunman, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, opened fire 14 times at the house.
Nobody was injured. The contractor dismissed the shots as the sound of fireworks at first.
He only realised they were gunshots when he spotted several bullet casings in his car porch as he was about to send his children to school.
The 9mm bullet casings were found in the house compound and outside.
The gunman and his accomplice, who were wearing helmets, had stopped in front of the house before opening fire.
