Mositun inspecting the area affected by floods in Papar.
KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Johnny Mositun has called on the Sabah state government to implement a proposed flood mitigation plan in Papar to ease the suffering of the people in the area.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the flood-stricken Kampung Kinuta and Kampung Sibandil in Papar on Monday, the Pantai Manis PBS chief said that the mitigation plan involved the construction of a large monsoon drain.
According to Mositun, who is also PBS secretary-general, the Papar Drainage and Irrigation Department had previously submitted the proposed plan to the relevant authority.
"It is estimated to cost about RM20mil. I hope the state government will look into this as soon as possible," said Mositun, who is also the state assembly deputy speaker.
