KUCHING: No criminal element has been found over the disappearance of an Egyptian pathologist.

Dr Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed Sakr was reported missing after an extended work absence from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Police believe that the pathologist is currently in the peninsula as he was spotted by CCTV at KLIA2 (Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2) on Dec 7.

Further investigation revealed that Dr Ahmed has a flight booked for Cairo on Dec 23, said Sarawak CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dev Kumar on Friday (Dec 15).

“Our investigation revealed that Dr Ahmed took a flight from Kuching on Dec 7 at 6.55pm and arrived at KLIA2 at 8.40pm.

“A review of the CCTV footage at the airport confirmed the pathologist had arrived safely that day and he was alone,” SAC Dev said.

Police are still investigating the whereabouts of Dr Ahmed and have contacted the Egyptian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur via Bukit Aman Interpol.

“As for now, we are still trying to locate Dr Ahmed but our investigation did not suggest any element of crime in the case,” SAC Dev said.

A medical officer from SGH reported Dr Ahmed as missing at the Satok police station on Tuesday (Dec 12), after he failed to show up to work since Dec 8.

The pathologist also could not be found at his rented apartment at Chong Lin Plaza.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Amer Awal immediately instructed the CID to investigate the case.

Dr Ahmed was appointed a pathologist on a contract basis by the Health Ministry and has been attached to the Pathologist Department at SGH since 2006.
