PUTERI Umno has hit back at a former member who alleged that many cases of khalwat (close proximity) occur every time the Umno General Assembly comes around.
The group, led by the wing’s information chief Haryaty Hamdzah, lodged a police report against its former member Wan Ashima Kamarudin, who was reported by a news portal to have made the claim.
“Such allegations are baseless and can tarnish the reputation of the party and the annual general assembly.
“In all my years I have been with the party, I have never seen anything like what she claimed,” Haryaty said outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters after lodging the report yesterday.
Wan Ashima, who is now a PAS member, was quoted by the news portal as claiming that her statement was based on her 17 years’ experience in Umno.
She went on to challenge the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to carry out raids to arrest those engaging in khalwat.
Haryaty said that Wan Ashima should have spoken out about such acts while she was still in Umno and not waited until she joined PAS.
Another report was also lodged by Klang Puteri Umno leader Norhaslindawati Bujang.
Haryaty said the wing would not hesitate to take legal action against the former member for making such an accusation.
