DATUK Seri Najib Tun Razak has had no hand in influencing the move to call for the top two posts in Umno to be uncontested.

Talking to reporters, the Umno president said the move originated from the delegates themselves, who wanted to see the party remain united in facing the 14th general election.

The general assembly, he said, was a platform higher than the party’s supreme council and that this decision could be considered as final.

“I accept the decision because I can see that it is the desire of party members who want certainty as we go into the election.

“They want to fully focus on more important work.

“They don’t want internal issues to affect their efforts for Umno and Barisan Nasional to win in the GE,” he said during a visit to the media centre.

Najib said more importantly, the delegates made the decision because they wanted to see a strong and united Umno.

“It is their desire to see a party with a stable leadership with no conflicts or issues unlike the Opposition,” he said.
