KUCHING: The Sarawak Chief Minister's office has denounced as fake a Facebook post claiming that Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will dissolve the state Barisan Nasional and replace it with local parties.

"This office wishes to clarify that the Chief Minister has never made such a statement.

"The posting is fake news fabricated by certain people for reasons best known to them," the Chief Minister's office said in a statement on Monday.

According to the post under the "Borneo Voice" account, Abang Johari purportedly said "I have no other choice but to dissolve the Barisan Nasional party in Sarawak and thereafter form a new state government from among the local Sarawak political parties".

The post, which was put up on Sunday (Nov 3), claimed that it was a warning from the Chief Minister to the Federal Government for not respecting the state's rights under the Malaysia Agreement.

It has since gone viral and was also widely circulated in chat groups.
