PETALING JAYA: The Qualitas Medical Group has apologised to the family of a 14-month-old patient who was allegedly given an overdose of cough medicine at one of its clinics.
In a statement on Wednesday (Nov 29), Qualitas responded to recent media reports and online posts regarding the “unfortunate incident” which occurred at YSL Bedok Clinic and Surgery in Singapore on Nov 22.
“We have been in contact with the child’s parents. The management of Qualitas would like to apologise to the family for any distress that they went through,” said the group.
According to Qualitas, it has offered “out of goodwill” to reimburse the child’s parents for all medical bills incurred as a result of the incident.
It also invited the patient to its paediatrics unit in Singapore for further reviews, and that the group has assembled a team to ensure its safety procedures are reviewed and enforced.
“Qualitas’ priority is to provide quality healthcare where the patient’s health is of utmost importance to us. We continuously strive to improve our services offered to our patients and customers at our clinics.
“We want the best for our patients and are relieved to hear that the infant has since recovered. We will continue to engage with the parents and wish the patient well,” it added.
On Nov 28, The Straits Times reported the case of the child being allegedly prescribed four times the dosage of a cough medication for his age.
He was rushed to hospital after a suspected overdose.
The boy’s mother, Belinda Lum, used the give.asia platform to share her account of events, titled “Justice For My Son”.
Lum alleged that when she called the clinic to complain, she was told: "So what you want us to do now?”
