Some of the victims were rescued and brought to the Pasir Bogak beach after their boat capsized.
PANGKOR ISLAND: Fun quickly turned to fear for a group of secondary students and teachers when one of their boats capsized during a snorkeling trip.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said one of four boats carrying 59 students and 12 teachers overturned in choppy waters as the group was returning from Pulau Giam at about 5.30pm.
"Thankfully, they were near Pasir Bogak and people on the beach were able to pull them to safety," he said, adding that it was also drizzling at the time.
The spokesman said of the 15 students who ended up in the water, one was found in a semi-conscious state while eight others also required medical attention.
