Electrician dies from wounds sustained in Api-Api substation explosion

KOTA KINABALU: One of the five electricians who were seriously burnt following an explosion at a substation in Api-Api here late Wednesday has died.

The victim, identified as Kasim Lajim, 52, was believed to have died at about midnight Thursday, after fighting for his life almost 24 hours.

Four others are still being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Three of them are still in critical condition after they sustained severe burns on their bodies in the 10.40pm incident.

The victims who are Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) workers were aged between 29 and 65.

They were carrying out repair works at the substation when the incident was believed to have occurred.

Earlier, city police chief Asst. Comm M. Chandra said they do not suspect foul play involved in the incident, but were investigating the incident from all aspects.
