Express bus overturns, 21 escape
MIRI: A long-distance express bus plying the 1,000km Kuching-Miri route overturned at the 54th kilometre of the Pantu district about 200km from Kuching city. The 21 people on board – 19 passengers and two drivers – escaped without serious injuries in the 2am incident yesterday. The bus was heading northwards towards Miri from Kuching. All the passengers managed to climb out of the bus on their own, said the Fire and Rescue Department. The driver told firemen that he was trying to avoid an oncoming car that had veered into his path from the opposite direction. The Kuching-Miri journey takes about 13 hours.
