PETALING JAYA: Police want more people to come forward to report on illegal gambling.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the community needs to play a bigger role in combating these illegal activities.

He assured the public that any tip-off received would be treated confidentially.

“We have various methods to ensure that anyone who gives us a tip-off is protected.

“We need the public to help us. If they have any information, come forward immediately,” he said after attending a ceremony to dispose of illegal gambling computers at the Ara Damansara police station on Monday.

He said from January to October this year, 628 raids were conducted here.

“We arrested 609 people including gamblers and caretakers.

“We also seized 7,834 illegal gambling devices,” he said, adding that police received a court order to destroy 3,885 devices.

Comm Mazlan said they destroyed 3,826 computers, 41 simulators, 15 laptops, two tablets and an iPad.

“The devices are worth RM2.3mil.

“We also channelled RM22,115 in cash which was seized back to the Government,” he said.

He added that police have a task force that works 24 hours a day to detect these cases.
