Businessman fined for using illegal satellite TV equipment


SEREMBAN: A 38-year-old businessman was fined RM10,000 for using illegal satellite television equipment at a house in Port Dickson.

Chook Soon Hup was accused of using an illegal dish, decoder and three low-noise block downconverters at 12.30am at Taman Sentosa on Sept 3 2015.

He pleaded guilty to the charge before Sessions judge Ahmad Fairuz Mohd Puzi on Friday (Nov 17).

He was charged under section 16 (1)(b) of the Multimedia and Communications Regulations (Technical Standard) 2000 read together with section 16 (3) of the same regulations.

Offenders can be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed up to six months or both upon conviction.

Norliza Mohd Adzhar from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission prosecuted while Chook was unrepresented.
