KLUANG: A man pretending to be a customer brazenly stole jewellery worth RM30,000 from a goldsmith's shop in Simpang Renggam here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Laham said that the suspect, believed to be in his 30s, entered the shop at about 3.20pm on Wednesday (Nov 15).

"The suspect told the salesgirl that he wanted to have a closer look at some items, saying he wanted to take pictures of it to send to his wife.

"However, he suddenly grabbed the jewellery and ran out of the shop, where an accomplice was waiting on a motorcycle," ACP Mohamad said in a statement here on Thursday.

He said that based on the shop's CCTV footage, the suspect is about five feet 10 inches (177cm) tall.

The suspect was wearing a dark-coloured shirt, light blue jeans and was carrying a pouch with "Apache Star" written on it.

ACP Mohamad said the suspect managed to escape with two gold chains, two gold necklaces and a ring.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

He urged those with any information relating to the suspects or the case to contact the Kluang police hotline immediately at 07-778 4222 or the Johor police hotline at 07-221 2999.
