Former kindergarten teacher charged with slapping student

KAJANG: An 18-year-old former kindergarten teacher pleaded not guilty to a charge of slapping a four-year-old student.

R. P. Nishalini, claimed trial to intentionally causing harm to a four-year-old by using her hand at the Junior Fantasy kindergarten on Jalan Damai, Taman Damai Indah, Hulu Langat at around 4.30pm on Oct 31. 

She faces a fine of up to RM2,000 or prison if convicted for the offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Megat Mahathir Megat Tharih Afendi suggested bail be fixed at RM5,000 with one surety. 

Nishalini, who had no legal representation, pleaded for lower bail as she had lost her teaching job. 

Magistrate Nor Afidah Idris allowed bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed Jan 9 for next mention. 

The case made headlines two weeks ago, when Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff was reported saying a kindergarten teacher was arrested for abusing a student. 

The teacher, who was not identified, was alleged to have slapped the child, causing bruises to the face and blood to come out of the ears
