KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz is asking if Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is afraid of disclosing the source of his wealth.
The Umno supreme council member, when posing the question, also pointed out that it is not wrong in the eyes of Islam to pursue wealth.
"What's wrong with flaunting wealth as long as the source of his wealth is halal? The religion doesn't say it's wrong for its followers to find wealth as long as it's through halal methods.
"We just want to know the source of his wealth. Is he afraid?" he said to reporters during a press conference held at Parliament.
The Padang Rengas MP also questioned Mukhriz's claims that there had been an invasion of his family's privacy.
"So, it's okay for non-mainstream media to publish the wealth of government officials and ministers? Don't practise double standards," he said.
Nazri said that the public has a right to know the sources of Mukhriz's wealth as he is a public figure.
Mukhriz, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president, had slammed several newspapers for publishing photos sourced from social media of the alleged lavish lifestyles of his daughters Meera Alyanna and Melia Serena.
Among the pictures published, was one that depicted one of his daughters on a private boat named "Puteri Alyanna".
The reports used 14 pictures posted on the "Sudahlah Mahathir" Facebook account, reproducing photos taken from the Instagram accounts of the two sisters, together with some allegations towards the source of the family's wealth.
Mukhriz and his family are mulling the possibility of taking legal action against the Facebook user and the newspapers that published the reports.
