SHAH ALAM: Polling for the DAP's central executive committee (CEC) at the party's special congress is being carried out under the watchful eye of a representative of accounting firm SJ Grant Thornton.
A total of 1,356 members, constituting 53.96 % of the total delegates from 865 branches nationwide, turned up at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) on Sunday to cast their votes.
The number marked a decrease of 62 members from the original delegates list that was used in 2012 and 2013.
The 62 members who are no longer in the list have either passed away, resigned from the party, or been disqualified after being declared bankrupt.
In June, the Registrar of Societies directed DAP to hold re-elections and to use the 2012 delegates list.
It had declared the results of the 2013 polls null and void.
Results of the elections are expected to be announced by 6pm but it is not known yet if the elected 20 people will convene the first CEC meeting on Sunday.
According to DAP practice, the 20 winners will meet and decide which 10 members from the contestants will be appointed into the 30-member CEC.
The winners will also elect the party office bearers from within themselves.
The process is going on without any major incidents except for a small protest by Tony Tan, the former aide of party vice-chairman Teresa Kok, who urged delegates not to vote for "corrupt" leaders.
Tan was, however, told to leave the area by a group of angry DAP supporters.
