GEORGE TOWN: Flood victims in Penang can replace their documents at the National Registration Department (NRD) for free.

Department spokesman Mohd Faizul Arifin (pic) said important documents such as MyKads, marriage certificates, citizenship certificates, birth certificates and MyKids, could be replaced at no charge.

"This is our department's standard practice to waive payment for documents lost or damaged in disasters such as floods or fires," he said when met at his office in Anson Road on Thursday (Nov 9).

He said applicants needed to get a letter from the district office confirming that they were affected by the floods to be eligible for free document replacement.

"We also accept police reports that specifically state the location of the house affected by the flood, and the reason for the loss of the documents," he said.

Mohd Faizul also urged flood victims to make their applications as soon as possible.

Earlier, Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali also announced that flood victims in Penang would have charges waived for replacements of passports damaged or lost during the massive flood in Penang.
