Sabah activist Safari Manan passes away

KOTA KINABALU: Renowned Sabah activist for the disabled, Datuk Safari Manan, has passed away.

Safari, 70, the Special Olympics Sabah chairman, leaves behind a wife, five children, and a grandchild.

He passed away at the Queen Elizabeth hospital here at about 5.45pm on Wednesday, Special Olympics Sabah treasurer Ngo York Kong said.

Ngo said Safari, who had served as corporate secretary with the state-owned Yayasan Sabah, was warded at the hospital about two weeks ago.

Safari was also the chairman of the management board of the Seri Mengasih Centre, a school for the disabled here.
