SHAH ALAM: Under Selangor’s Budget 2018, some 30,000 mothers from the low income category in the state will receive RM200 monthly to pay for necessities.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic), when announcing the Budget at the state secretariat yesterday, said the programme will come under the state’s new Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor (KISS) initiative.

“This is to help out mothers with household income of RM2,000 and below,” said Azmin.

He added the initiative, costing RM72mil, would be fully borne by the state government.

Azmin said the state government will start off the initiative in the first quarter of 2018 with an initial financing of RM18mil.

Earlier, he announced that RM3.12bil has been allocated for Selangor’s Budget 2018, of which RM1.66bil (53.2%) will go towards development and the balance RM1.46bil for administrative expenditure. The budget is projected to have a deficit of RM870mil.

Azmin also said the state government has proposed a total of RM44.1mil for an integrated healthcare scheme.

Among the healthcare services that will be provided are basic healthcare, heart treatment, pneumococcal vaccinations, palliative care services for cancer patients and health insurance for civil servants and farmers.

“Pneumococcal diseases are caused by very dangerous bacterial infection amongst children and the elderly.

“It can be countered with vaccination but the cost is high,” said Azmin.

The Mentri Besar said the state’s Peduli Sihat cardholders will receive a one-off allocation of RM180 each to pay for the pneumococcal vaccination.

About 10,000 farmers are also expected to benefit from a RM3mil allocation towards a new insurance scheme.

“Through this scheme, farmers will receive medical protection in the event of permanent disability and death benefits,” said Azmin.

The Budget also allocated RM185.2mil for Selangor residents to continue receiving the monthly 20 cubic metres of free water a household in 2018.

Azmin said the state also expected to collect RM2.25bil in revenue in 2018.
