KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched two books promoting loyalty in Islamic jurisprudence and rebutting allegations that the country is a failed state.
A simple ceremony was held in the Parliament building by Najib after he chaired the National Moderation Policy Implementation Committee meeting.
The books, published by Institut Wasatiyyah Malaysia, were entitled Fiqh Wala dan Taat: Peranan Dalam Mensejahtera Negara and Malaysia Bukan Negara Gagal.
The first book calls on the society to adopt moderation in the face of global challenges.
The second one deals with the recent political rhetoric of the Opposition, alleging that Malaysia was a failed state.
Among others, it warned that the often-used phrase had led to confusion among the public.
The book also aims to dispel the allegations by providing readers a list of the country’s achievements in various fields.
Earlier during the meeting, the committee members discussed views and ideas on how to better implement moderation in a more systematic manner, Bernama reported.
Najib heard a report on the policy implementation which contains six strategic areas namely education and youth; economy and development; administration and legislation; unity and social; politics and nationhood; and security and defence.
The report was tabled by Wasatiyyah Institute of Malaysia director Datuk Mohd Yusof Din, who is also the secretary of the meeting.
Those who attended also presented their views and ideas to strengthen the national Wasatiyyah policy for it to be implemented in a systematic and organised manner at all levels.
Among them were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, religious advisor to the Prime Minister Tan Sri Dr Abdullah Md Zin, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman; secretaries-general of ministries and state secretaries.
