GEORGE TOWN: People living in the north coast of the island of Penang and Sandakan in Sabah are urged not to panic if they hear the tsunami siren today.

That is because the Malaysia Meteorological Department is running tests on tsunami early warning systems between 9am and 5pm on Tuesday.

The areas involved are Sandakan, Tinosa 2 in Sabah, and the Esplanade, Gurney Drive, Tanjung Tokong and Tanjung Bungah in Penang, the department said on Facebook.

It urged residents not to panic, adding that it would update the public if there are any changes to its testing schedule.
