KUALA LUMPUR: A mysterious package found outside the Bukit Bintang shopping mall that caused a bomb scare turned out to contain toy soldiers and folded paper.

However, police are not taking the Monday night incident lightly and are pursuing the culprit.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said the seemingly innocuous find would not stop them from conducting further investigations.

He said CCTV footage from the shopping mall showed a man, believed to be a foreigner, placing the 10x5cm package next to a fuse box near the mall.

ACP Mohd Sukri said it was not an act of terrorism.

The case has been classified as criminal intimidation.

The mall’s security team called police when they found the suspicious package at about 10pm.

A bomb squad was also dispatched to the scene.

The package was successfully destroyed at 1.50am.
