PETALING JAYA: Wanita Umno exco member Datuk Maznah Hamid passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Wednesday evening.

The death of the 62-year-old Maznah was confirmed by an employee of her company, Kumpulan Securiforce Sdn Bhd.

"Datuk Maznah died at 6pm," said the employee to The Star’s mStar Online portal without elaborating.

According to Maznah's family, her remains will be brought to her residence in Ukay Heights in Ampang.

Maznah, who was popularly known as the "Iron Lady" was reported to be in critical condition following complications after a heart operation last week.

She was admitted to IJN on Sept 18.

Maznah reportedly underwent her first open-heart surgery last Thursday, after two blood vessels to her heart were blocked.

She was moved to the intensive-care unit after the operation at 2pm, before IJN staff had to turn the ICU into an ad-hoc operation theatre for her second surgery after she experienced severe internal bleeding.
