KAJANG: Families and friends bonded as they walked, talked, laughed and sweated under the clear blue sky.
It was a lovely morning of camaraderie as they took part in a 5km Walk with Love event organised by dimsum, a subscription video-on-demand service operated by a subsidiary of the Star Media Group.
Competing was not on their minds as participants came together to celebrate togetherness.
Dressed in a white Walk with Love T-shirts and a red balloon tied to their wrists, more than 2,000 people walked the 5km at Eco Majestic in Semenyih, near here.
Eco Majestic was the perfect location for a healthy morning stroll with its luscious greenery, beautiful landscaping and a lake.
The participants passed through stations, which each carried five themes – inspire, sign, smile, wish and cheer – making the walk that much more fun.
They were given an inspirational quote-printed wristband, a balloon and a pack of three wishing bands.
They stamped meaningful signs on the shirts of their families, friends and also those they just met, took photographs with giant drama posters, made wishes and rang the “victory bells” at the finishing line.
And to end the walk on a sweet note, every finisher had a medal.
Star Media Group Bhd chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said the event was indeed a joyful one with families and friends from all over coming together to promote goodwill, friendship and unity.
“This is something that we want in a neighbourhood and in society, where people of different races and backgrounds mingle and get to know one another better.
“This is the kind of positive spirit and friendliness that we need more in Malaysia and that is the way to promote moderation and unity among the people of all races.
“It’s a great honour for Star Media Group and dimsum to work together with Eco World (Development Group Bhd) for this Walk with Love,” he said.
Fu also congratulated Eco World for its magnificent environment in Eco Majestic, adding that Eco World has been the brand name of the housing industry in the country.
Eco World Development Group Bhd chairman Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin said the walk was a fantastic platform to connect members of the community and to promote healthy family living.
“This is what Star Media Group stands for and what Eco World stands for. In Eco World, it’s all about families and building communities,” he said.
dimsum chief marketing officer Lam Swee Kim said the participation for the walk was overwhelming.
“The first dimsum walk is a great get-together event for all. Whatever your age or ability, Walk With Love is about getting active and bringing people together while having fun.
“There were fun activities and the kids really enjoyed themselves. We hope to have another walk like this next year,” she said.
