MIRI: Two boys aged 10 and 11 who were taken into custody by the police in Limbang town in northern Sarawak on suspicion of raping a nine-year-old girl have been released due to their age.

Sarawak CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dev Kumar said the two boys, who are not schooling, were questioned but later released to their parents.

“We already questioned them and will send them for medical tests. The probe is still ongoing,” he said yesterday.

On Monday, police picked up the two boys in the evening following a police report lodged by the mother of the victim.

The girl was sent to Miri Hospital on Sunday evening for a check-up.

On Sunday afternoon, the mother found her daughter naked from the waist down with the two boys inside a store room of a plantation site in Limbang.

The 32-year-old mother, who works at the plantation, found one of the boys on top of her daughter.

SAC Dev said the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
