Deluged: A house submerged in rising floods in Kampung Sungai Baung, Nibong Tebal.

NIBONG TEBAL: About 20 families in Kampung Sungai Baung had to be evacuated after flash floods hit the village.

State Fire and Rescue Department senior assistant superintendent Azman Hussein said the flood waters rose to more than a metre high when they arrived at 5.30pm yesterday.

“We helped a family of four to evacuate as the water was rising fast.

“Two other houses were totally submerged at the neighbouring Kampung Lima,” he said, adding that it started to rain at 5pm.

The road connecting Kampung Sungai Baung to Relau, Kedah, was totally cut off by the floods.

Azman said boats were on standby to evacuate the affected residents if required to.

“Another area affected was Changkat Jawi. The situation is under control but we will continue to monitor the water level,” he said.

He said the residents were advised to be on alert for any eventualities.
