SIBU: An Indonesian bomoh has been charged at the Sessions Court here with raping and having a sexual connection by object on a woman who sought treatment from him for stomach pain.

The accused, Marhaji Madjiri, 29, pleaded not guilty to the charges read out to him on Wednesday.

Justice Caroline Bee Jackson released him on a bail of RM8,000 in one surety and ordered him to report to the police station once a month.

According to the charge sheet, the accused was charged under Section 376 (2) and (F) of the Penal Code with raping the 20-year old woman between 11.30pm and 11.59pm on Aug 21 in the bathroom of the victim's house in Sibu Jaya.

The second charge was under Section 377CA of the same Code for committing sexual connection by object where he had inserted his finger into the victim's private parts at the same time and place.

She was initially treated in a room at the house in the presence of her mother and an auntie.

The bomoh then asked the victim to go into the bathroom to take a bath. The girl declined at first but later relented so as not to anger her mother.

It was in the bathroom that the bomoh allegedly raped her.

At the magistrate's court earlier, the accused faced another charge under Section 377D of the same Code for committing gross indecency on the victim.

Magistrate Saiful Ayoti released him on a bail of RM7,000 in two sureties. He also ordered Marhaji's passport to be impounded.

The court fixed Sept 19 for case mention.
