Malaysians make #AnakAnakMalaysia walk a success

SHAH ALAM: Malaysians from all walks of life came together to make the 2017 #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk a resounding success on Sunday.

Donning their #AnakAnakMalaysia T-shirts and wristbands, some 6,000 participants, including many prominent personalities, completed the 5km walk in the cool morning at the Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam here.

Many had arrived as early as 6am for the walk which was held for the second year running.

The walk ended at about 8.30am, and everyone were treated to a hearty breakfast at food trucks and stalls set up by the sponsors.

The crowd was later entertained by the energetic performance of the EcoWorld Symphony Drummers who got everyone grooving to the beat of “Hawaii 5-0” and “Once Upon A Time in China”.

This was followed by a performance from the EcoWorld Choir and Team EcoWorld, who sang a specially-composed song Anak-Anak Malaysia, Anak-Anak Gembira.

This year, the walk circled some popular locations in Shah Alam, such as the iconic Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque, Laman Budaya, the Wet World Water Park and the Shah Alam Convention Centre.

The day started with everyone singing the Negaraku. The walk was flagged off at 7.15am by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who later led a 2.2km unity-walk together with Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and his wife Datin Seri Shamsidar Taharin.

Present were Shah Alam mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad,  #AnakAnakMalaysia and EcoWorld Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, and EcoWorld Development Group Berhad chairman Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin.

They were joined by local celebrities, industry captains and influencers.

The fun-filled morning drew to a close with the announcement of lucky draw prizes courtesy of the sponsors.

The Grand Prize winner walked away with a brand new Proton Iriz courtesy of Proton, the official car sponsor for the #AnakAnakMalaysia walk.

Another feat achieved in this year’s campaign was the distribution of one million #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands sponsored by EcoWorld and designed by renowned cartoonist Reggie Lee.

Throughout the campaign, Malaysians from all over the world were encouraged to express their patriotism in a creative manner and sharing photos and videos of themselves posing with the band and Malaysian flag on social media platforms.

The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk was organised by Star Media Group Bhd in collaboration with Eco World Development Group Bhd.

Lucky draw prizes included a Proton Iriz 1.6L Premium CVT, Gintell (M) Sdn Bhd De’Vano S Funtastic Sofa, Goodnite Exec Series 6” Achievement Mattress, Panasonic Merchandise, PNB Perdana Hotel and Suites on the Park stays, Spin Pro B1.3 Exercise Bike from Healthy World Lifestyle, OTO e-Physio Plus EY-900P, Soleus GPS Sole running watch and Kay Kay All Plant Sports Protein Powder by Inno Asia Distribution Sdn Bhd.
